Research

Our hypothesis is that adsorption-enhanced, immobilized solar photocatalysis will be an economically viable part of the treatment train processes in either local, landfill leachate treatment or wastewater treatment plants. The present project’s objective is the development and demonstration of a treatment process train that utilizes synergistic methods to achieve in situ remediation in a manner that is economically viable for industrial and wastewater treatment systems. This will be accomplished using a strategy that eliminates catalyst separation through immobilization, thereby, reducing costs. In addition, the continued sampling of various aged landfill leachate samples from our local landfills will provide a monthly examination of the PFAS contaminant levels and their dependence on environmental conditions including rainfall, temperature, and age.
